Tiempo Latino Celebrates 15 Years of Bags of Love/Bolsas de Amor Program, Providing Essential Aid to Vulnerable Families in the D.C. Area

This year, Tiempo Latino, a founding partner of the Bags of Love/Bolsas de Amor program, celebrates 15 years of dedicated service to the communities of Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, providing essential food aid to the region’s most vulnerable families.

Bags of Love, initiated by EMD Sales Inc. in response to the 2008 financial crisis, was established to address the critical need for food among struggling families. Since its inception in 2009, this collaborative project has brought together like-minded partners such as Tiempo Latino to provide essential aid.

This year’s program successfully put together 1,000 boxes, each filled with 52 pounds of food, ready for distribution across 29 sites in the Washington, D.C., area.

Elda Devarie, President of EMD Sales and Bags of Love, expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support received in 2024. “It is a community effort with companies and sponsors to combat food insecurity in our community. When we started with Tiempo Latino, there were 300 bags; now, 15 years later, we are making a thousand boxes. We are touching approximately 4,000 people with this effort,” she stated.

Held at the EMD Sales warehouse in Baltimore, Maryland, the packing event saw around a hundred volunteers, including employees, sponsors, clients, and partners, come together to recognize and celebrate the unwavering support from various media organizations, businesses, and individuals. In a special moment during the gathering, Tiempo Latino was commended for its 15 years of commitment to making a significant difference in the lives of numerous families through the meaningful initiative.

“We stand here today with key members of our team, Zulema Tijero, Vice President of Sales, and Ricardo Sánchez Silva, Senior Editor, to graciously accept this recognition. Our commitment to supporting the community is unwavering; we consistently seek opportunities to make a meaningful impact in every way,” shared Rafael Ulloa, Deputy publisher of Tiempo Company.
